We are sponsoring our annual spring grant program to award monetary grants for programs or facilities expanding recreational, horticultural, and cultural opportunities for the people of Oakland.

Our 2008 Grants Deadlines are Feb. 15th, 2008, April 1, 2008 and July 1, 2008 by noon.

Proposals must be consistent with the mission of FRIENDS (see the last page of the packet). Completed proposals will be studied by our Grants Committee  and recommendations will be given to our Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Applicants will be notified of the decisions after the Board votes.

The application and Proposal Criteria Guidelines is included in the packet. Please remember that you will want to obtain letters of recommendation from two members of your community. Please call the Friends office at 465-1850 or email oaklandparks@sbcglobal.net with any questions on the forms, or for clarification of any of the items.

Click here to download an Adobe pdf document of our grants application packet.  Complete this information, attach the required documentation and submit it to the indicated address by the appropriate deadline.  (Please note our change of address, our new mailing address is P.O. Box 13267, Oakland, CA  94661).  Applications can also be dropped off at our office located in the Lakeside Park Garden Center at 666 Bellevue Ave during office hours 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mon. - Thurs. or left in the drop box outside the building.

Grant Administration documents
If you are awarded a grant through Friends all check requests shall be submitted to FRIENDS with proper documentation supporting the expenditures outlined in the grant application.   When requesting payment simply fill out the check request form click here and send it in with the original invoices, receipts or other related documentation to Friends.  You may send in check requests as necessary as not all funds need to be disbursed together.  Any unused grant monies will revert back to FRIENDS one year from the above date.  The applicant also agrees to acknowledge the contribution of FRIENDS in any promotional materials you may use to tell about the project.  We also ask that you complete an evaluation of the benefits of this Grant.
