What we do

The Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation (FOPR) bridges the gap between the City of Oakland’s Office of Parks and Recreation’s funding and the public’s need for safe, clean and well maintained parks and recreation centers.  We have improved parks and recreation centers across the city by providing fiscal sponsorship, fundraising support and technical assistance to community groups working to improve their neighborhood parks.  FOPR’s involvement varies by project, but each project relies on collaboration between community groups, private businesses, and government agencies.  Every project FOPR undertakes improves and expands Oakland’s parks and green spaces.  If your group is in need of fiscal sponsorship, consider Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation.  Please download our Fiscal Sponsorship Request Form, fill it out, save it, and email to Interim Executive Director Ken Lupoff for consideration.

Services Friends provides:

  • FOPR provides non-profit fiscal sponsorship to groups with similar goals who cannot afford to maintain their own 501 (c)(3) status.
  • FOPR secures funding for capital improvement projects like Raimondi Park in West Oakland.
  • FOPR provides grants and scholarships to youngsters throughout Oakland for camp, art, boating and swimming lessons.
