With all the inviting features of a classic American public park, Montclair Park sits nestled adjacent to the quiet streets of the nearby shopping district and the rush of traffic on Highway 13. Sitting directly below the historic track bed of the Sacramento Northern Railroad that ran through the neighborhood in the early 20th century, Montclair Park is a natural gathering point for homeowners who live above in the surrounding hills. Grab coffee from a café or a meal from the weekend farmers market, then find out what makes Montclair Park a favorite for many locals.

Park Activities

Montclair Park radiates outward from the pond at its center, where you will spot ducks, geese, fish, turtles and other animals. There are three different play options for children, including a tot lot, a playground and a “Wild West” themed area featuring a Wells Fargo stagecoach. The grounds and picnic areas are connected by graceful walking paths and there are tennis courts, a baseball diamond and basketball hoops for recreation. Visitors out for a day hike can continue on the Montclair Railroad Trail toward Shepherd Canyon. Reviewers call Montclair Park “a nice place for a weekend getaway” with “something for everyone” and “a dreamy look.”

  1. Hi,
I see that the tennis courts have been transformed into Pickle Ball courts. I also saw that the gates are locked. Can you tell me when they will be available for use? Can we sign up to use them? How do we do this? Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

    1. Hi Nancy, thank you for your questions. For facilities availability, we should suggest contacting the Recreation Center at (510) 482-7812.

      1. Thank you for adding that information, Rissa! Hope you enjoy the fancy pickleball icon added to the Park Facilities section!

Update: One tennis court (the formerly unused and decrepit junior court) was converted to pickleball. It officially opened in May of 2021 and is busy all day every day.
As the only place in the entire city with real courts, it gets a lot of action from the thousands of residents who are currently playing the fastest growing sport in America. Hopefully the Oakland Parks has more planned.
