Answers To Submitted Questions

March 10, 2021

I live outside the United States. Can I participate?

You are welcome to submit a proposal! Please note that to win you must be able to execute an agreement with an organization based in the United States.

How old is the current logo? Were there previous redesigns?

The current logo has been in use since 2015. Previous iterations with the running boy and the kite have been in use since at least 2010, when the organization was called “Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation.”

What are the issues/problems that the current logo manifests? Please be as specific as possible.

The sense within the organization is that the current logo is dated and needs to be more inclusive to match our community of support, which has become more diverse, multicultural and younger.

Why is it that OPRF is conducting a logo contest at this period within a relatively short time limit?

A logo redesign has been on our organizational to-do list for some time, however, the immediate urgency and timeline are driven by the availability of grant funding for the project.

Is there a specific aspect ratio that OPRF would prefer the new design to be in?

There is no specific desired aspect ratio. However, one of the primary challenges from our perspective is how the design manages all the words in “Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation.” For instance, we can envision a square logo with these words adjacent or below (to form a landscape or portrait rectangle) or a design that incorporates the words within the logo itself. More than any desired shape is a treatment that elegantly incorporates all the words with worded/wordless versions that can stand on their own in different environments.

If we use a font that is not Montserrat, but that the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation does not currently have the license for, may we safely assume that OPRF will purchase that font for its own use and that it is not a Supplier cost?

Please assume that: a) costs you incur to submit your proposal are your own; and, b) we will ask you whether any elements of your design use 3rd party intellectual property or require any ongoing expenditure on our part.

What is meant by “one round of refinement on the original design”?

This only refers to a round of refinement prior to selecting the winning design. We’ll meet with the identified finalists to review their initial submissions, at which point we may request refinements before choosing the winner. This is the “one round of refinement” and there is no future expectation of further refinement once the logo design contest is concluded.

What is meant by the request for submitted files in “either MAC or PC file format”?

This refers to the final asset delivery. The initial submission is a PDF and the final delivery just needs to be in a format we can use. For instance, a high quality PNG file and an Adobe file.

What is meant by “availability for design consultation for up to 12 months?

We don’t have specific requirements or scope, nor is the intent to create an open-ended obligation. This is more an expression of a desire to keep a door open for future work, all of which would be separately contracted at that time, for potential projects like executing the logo look and feel across different marketing assets.

What is meant by “assistance with initial reproduction necessities?

We don’t have specific requirements or scope in mind, nor is the intent to create an open-ended obligation. We just want the flexibility to have a question answered, for example. We can define this together to make sure it feels comfortable.

What is meant by the requirement that “suppliers should be prepared to enter into a contract with terms mutually agreed upon?

Please assume that our intent here is meant only to codify the transfer of intellectual property related to the logo design contest and does not contemplate any future work, all of which would be separately contracted at that time.

If we submit our proposal, but then find the need to correct something, are we allowed to resubmit as long as it’s before the final due date on March 19th, 2021?

Yes, absolutely.
