Moving Forward at Courtland Creek

Thank you to all the community members (pictured above) who joined us on July 31 to discuss next steps for the restoration of Courtland Creek Park! It is terrific to be working together with the Friends of Courtland Creek Park, Oakland Public Works and Councilmember Sheng Thao.

The City of Oakland is designing a project to protect, enhance and restore approximately 950 feet of open creek channel in three sections of Courtland Creek Park. The Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation is providing marketing and community outreach support.

The project will improve creek habitat and water quality, reduce trash accumulation and illegal dumping, repair steep and eroding creek banks, enhance climate change resilience and park appearance, and serve the community as an educational and recreational resource.

  1. The creek is pretty messed up where I live. Its so bad that I want to know if there is anything I can do about it now(myself). There are tires, glass bottles cans, trash like oil bottles, plastic of all kinds and there is even someone’s roofing material in the creek. Its creating a dam. Its got worse since the last storm.

    1. Thanks for your report, Donna. You’ll want to report this issue to the City of Oakland through OAK311 or the SeeClickFix app.
