King Estate Open Space: Invasive Species Removal

  • King Estates Fontaine Street Entrance Oakland, CA United States (map)

OKNIA.org volunteers will continue be removing Black mustard from the King Estate Open Space. Our goal is to weed this invasive plant now while the soil is moist to make the work easier.

When: Saturday 19 January, (Martin Luther King Day) 9:00 am-11:00 am

Where: Meet at Fontaine Street Entrance Avenue to KEOS (between the two schools: Sojourner Truth and Oakland Knowledge Academy)

What to bring: Most of the plants can be pulled up by hand. If the soil is too dry for that, garden hand tools work well, such garden size pick-mattock, garden knife, or any narrow weed removal tool. Bring work gloves and also kneepads if you prefer to use them. Some tools, knee pads and gloves will be available on site.

Dress for the weather: Some slopes are steep so footwear with good traction is recommended.
